Hi! I am Eman AlGhawas, Founder of Bookworms. I grew up loving books and stories as a kid. My passion for reading increased in my teenage years when I decided I would perfect my English language through continuous reading of fiction. By the time I reached High School, I could spend my entire day engrossed in a book and, not surprisingly, could finish a thick novel in one day. God I miss those days!
Throughout my college years, I would continuously tell my husband that the majority of the Arab world should be more hooked on reading, given that they are the Iqraa (Arabic word for Read) Nation, and that I would love to someday be a part of that change when it does happen.
I Graduated, Suma Cum Laude, with a B.A in English Literature from Eastern Connecticut State University, Connecticut, USA (four wonderful years!) During my studies, I had the fortune of studying Children’s Literature and Adolescent’s Literature, two of my favorite courses. When I came back to my home country, Bahrain, I worked as an English teacher (Nursery/KG1) for two years and then decided to stay at home with my son. The nonstop criticism from people that came with that decision pushed me to start looking for work-from-home, a western concept that I loved. Unfortunately, I had non-believers all around me. Given that work-from-home or any semblance of a part time job was a hard thing to find in Bahrain, I didn’t blame them! I couldn’t find any company that would allow its workers to work from home. So, I had to do something on my own.
After many sleepless nights of soul-searching and many possible business ideas, a door opened at a small day care center that had an afternoon club for kids. The club offered all sorts of programs except for reading. That’s when the light bulb moment happened! I Loved reading. I loved kids. I loved the idea that children can learn from me but I didn’t like teaching for 8 hours straight. I wanted to be able to do something that could involve my own kids and that would give me flexible working hours, with most of the work being done from home. I contacted the principal, and then and there Bookworms was born!
At the mere age of 28, I started my own business. In the future, I would love to try my hand in writing. What are your dreams? What are you waiting for?
